Former NASA astronaut Leland Melvin is legendary not only for his work in space, but additionally for a NASA photo taken with his adorable dogs. Now he’s in the highlight once more because of a Twitter alternate about unusual sights in space.

Melvin fielded a query final week from Scott Waring, founding father of the favored weblog UFO Sightings Daily. Waring requested for Melvin’s “outlook about the existence of intelligent alien life living in our solar system” and whether or not the retired astronaut had ever witnessed a UFO.

Melvin, who’s logged greater than 565 hours in space, answered by saying he hasn’t seen a UFO in space or on the bottom. And then issues acquired attention-grabbing when he added, “but thought I saw something organic/alien like floating out of the payload bay.”

He wrote that he and NASA astronaut Randy Bresnik referred to as right down to the bottom to ask what it was. NASA instructed them it was ice that had damaged off a Freon hose. Melvin described it as “translucent, curved, organic looking” after which added an alien-head emoji on the finish of the tweet.

Waring responded again with a “Wow!” and requested if NASA may need lied about what the thing actually was. Melvin responded with, “Hmmm. Don’t think so but you never know.”

If we’re on the lookout for a proof for a weird sighting in space, ice appears like a superbly affordable one. Melvin’s final space mission passed off when the shuttle Atlantis visited the International Space Station in 2009, and it seems Earth hasn’t been invaded by organic/alien-like creatures since then.

CNET has reached out to Melvin to seek out out which mission he was on when he saw the thing and what he thought it may be.
