An employee on a Norwegian Cruise Lines ship is counting his blessings after a “miraculous” rescue within the open waters off Cuba on Sunday.
Carnival Cruise Lines introduced they rescued the 33-year-old crew member from the Norwegian Getaway at about 2:15 p.m. on Sunday after Norwegian had reported the person lacking the earlier day. Carnival stated a member of its crew noticed the person within the water and the ship rotated, lowered a life boat and rescued the overboard employee.
The man had been within the water about 22 hours after going overboard and was discovered about 21 miles north of Cuba.
“This is nothing wanting miraculous,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “Kudos to the Carnival Glory staff for this wonderful effort to rescue a fellow seafarer.”

“I used to be on the life boat and was a part of the crew that pulled him out of the water,” Carnival Glory safety officer Cesare Mattera said in an interview shared by the cruise line. “He was alright, however was clearly distressed from being within the water for thus lengthy. We shall be disembarking him once we arrive in Cozumel on Monday, for additional therapy and care by Norwegian Cruise Line.”
Norwegian Cruise Lines had suspended its personal search, along with the Coast Guard, because it grew to become too darkish on Saturday night time. The Coast Guard stated it searched an space of 1,630 sq. miles. The ship had been halted through the search, resulting in a delayed itinerary.

Norwegian thanked Carnival for recovering the employee and stated he can be returned to shore quickly.
“Early yesterday morning a crew member went overboard as Norwegian Getaway made her method again to Miami,” Norwegian said in a statement. “The Coast Guard was notified and a search and rescue operation ensued close to western Cuba. Thankfully, the crew member was discovered by Carnival Glory and is reported to be in steady situation. We are so glad to know that the person is secure and can quickly be reunited with family and friends.”
The Carnival ship had been on its solution to Cozumel, Mexico, on the time.
